What we do

What is Social Connection?

Social connection encompasses a range of interactions, relationships, roles, and the overall sense of belonging felt by individuals, communities, or societies. The extent of an individual's social connection goes beyond just the number of close relationships they maintain; it's about the variety and depth of these connections. Social connection can be broken down into three essential elements: structure, function, and quality.

Structure refers to the quantity of relationships, the diversity of these relationships (such as connections with coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors), and how often one interacts with these people.

  • Function relates to how much one can depend on others for different kinds of support.

  • Quality measures the positivity, helpfulness, and satisfaction derived from these relationships and interactions, as opposed to experiences that are negative, unhelpful, or dissatisfying.

Collaboration

Through the establishment of partnerships, subcommittees, and working groups, we further enrich our advocacy and activation initiatives. Additionally, these collaborative efforts support our members in perpetuating their essential contributions.

OUR INNOVATION APPROACH

Innovative solutions to foster connection are critical to our nation’s collective well-being.

Awareness

By leveraging education, events, and communication channels, we aim to highlight the negative effects of social isolation and loneliness, as well as the beneficial aspects of social connection.

Utilizing our platform, we bring attention to the adverse consequences of being socially isolated or lonely and inform the public about the significant benefits that come from fostering social connections. Through our key events and dedication to proactive measures, we engage thought leaders and innovators across various sectors to contribute to our cause.
